The First Hike of the Season

First Hike of the Season, a set on Flickr.

    Via Flickr:
Summer has finally arrived in California and with it comes an amazing hiking season. I had been wanting to do some hiking for a while, but work was bogging me down. Today, however, I finally found myself on a solo hike in the Sunol Regional Wilderness of Alameda County.

I took the Canyon View Trail, because, well, I wanted to see a canyon. :)

The hike up to the top of a ridge was great, not too steep and not too long. God’s beauty was all around me: California’s summer and all her golden white fields and jumping lizards and stunning red rocks and soaring vultures. It all just fit perfectly together.

At the top of the ridge, I met a cow and her swarm of flies–her name was Sophia; her swarm had no name. We chatted for a while until she got bored with the grass in her mouth. Then I hopped off my rock and continued through the field of tall grass. The wind was blowing the grass in waves, and I was taken aback at the beauty before me.

It made me realize how much I miss the outdoors and all of God’s creation. Then He showed me, "This is all My creation, the work of My hands. But you are My child, My son, the work of My heart." What an important lesson! Something which always needs to be remembered: we are Father’s most prized possession. None of this even compares.

    Evening Pondering

Working late is not all that bad when you get a peaceful view like this. The ducks are cool, but all the cats are evil…I will have to devise a scheme to remove them. :)

Of course, I should probably stop working so much, regardless of how pleasant my work environment really is…okay, maybe next week.

    High Violet by The National

If you have not already heard of The National, you should check them out! They are an alt/punk, indie/alternative band (according to Rhapsody), with a great sound somewhere between Paper Route and Jimmy Eat World and Cut Copy. (More …)

    The Power of One

In these past few week I am reminded time and time again of God’s unrelenting desire to be near us, to be near His children. We think we have to clean house before we can come to God—make ourselves presentable, package up our problems into neat little bundles, polish all our lumps of coal. (More …)

    Enclosed By You

Every once in a while I come across a song that really strikes a chord with my heart. “Enclosed By You” by the Christian rock band Telecast is one of those songs, singing of God’s unrelenting desire to be with us, even as we focus our energy elsewhere. (More …)
